Bioregional Atlas:
The Kawartha Bioregion occupies a distinctive position in the geographic extent of southern Ontario, as an expanse that bridges the mixed farmlands and woodlands of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence corridor, the rocky Canadian Shield, the transition zone between them known as “The Land Between”, and the Trent-Severn Waterway that connects east-west. The Kawartha Bioregion is also a prime example in the overlap of cultural considerations with the natural environment, with its rich First Nations presence, settler traditions, and agricultural and other land management practices.
