The Conservancy has developed a sequence of steps to guide the process of donation of property or conservation agreement to the Conservancy so that all parties’ interests are protected and expectations are met. The steps include discussions with the landowner, site assessments, development of a detailed conservation plan for the property, the Conservancy Board approval of the transaction, and arrangement of financial details such as tax benefits or a management fund for the property. Conservancy staff has extensive expertise in the legal and financial aspects of making conservation donations, however anyone involved in a transfer of property is advised to also get independent legal and financial advice. For detailed information on the process of donating property or conservation agreement to the Conservancy, see our Transaction Steps Factsheet
