Our mission is to conserve the natural and cultural heritage and distinctive landscapes of the Kawartha bioregion.

Humming Brid The Kawarthas… land of shining waters.
Of twisted moraines and hump-backed drumlins.
Of mixed-green, shimmering forests. Of rustling, musky
marshes. Of long-worked, productive farmlands. Of
fading settlers’ landmarks. Of proud indigenous presence
and heritage. Of meandering streams, and rock-lined canals.
Of wildlife and plant life and human life – interdependent and vital.

It is this mix of heritage landscapes that continues to attract people to
the Kawartha bioregion, and has convinced many of us to stay. It is also
the foundation of the bioregion’s sustainability: ecological, social, cultural and economic. The goal of protecting and safeguarding the environmental health and vibrancy of this beautiful and rich region of Ontario is critical.

The Kawartha Heritage Conservancy is a non-governmental charity dedicated to that goal. Established in 2001, the Conservancy is a not-for-profit land trust that works with landowners and the community to identify and protect key ecological and cultural features of the Kawartha bioregion. We invite you to work with us.
