Volunteer Profiles

We are proud of our volunteers!

Current Active Volunteers and Interns

Amanda Warren has been helped us with organizing our 2010 photocontest. This year she was instrumental in organizing our 10 year anniversary event and continues to help out with other activities. Amanda also works full-time at the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Amber Brant is assisting us with various GIS related tasks. Profile coming soon.

Elyse Sawdon is a graduate of The University of Calgary with a degree in Environmental Design. Elyse is assisting us with various cultural resources data collection as well as natural heritage related work on our properties. With a background in biology and environmental planning, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to KHC's work.

Ian Spooner is a graduate of centennial college’s operations management program and is currently working towards his bachelor of business administration degree at Trent University.  He is doing an internship with the conservancy thanks to the community based research course offered at the university. His skills and abilities are being utilized at the conservancy in a number of activities including the local carbon-offset research project.  

Jessyka McArthur has been assisting us with Species at Risk related projects.

Laura Walker has been helping us out with event managment and creative design and communications work. She currently also works full-time for the Ministry of Natural Resources. Profile coming soon.

Matt Brackenridge has been an active volunteer at KHC since January 2011. He has been assisting with various KHC administrative and financial matters. Matt now also serves on KHC's board. Having graduated from Trent University with a Bachelors of Business Administration, he now works at TD Canada Trust. He plans to pursue a professional accountancy designation as well. During his time off Matt likes to ski, mountain bike, and explore a range of other outdoor activities. 

Mike Kyffin - After working as a GIS Programme Coordinator at the Kawartha Heritage Conservancy, he moved on to Trent University for a one year stint and is now at Univesity of Toronto doing his GIS magic for them. Congratulations Mike.  He continues to provide his GIS expertise as a volunteer. His life-long interest in maps and the outdoors led to a formal education in Geographic Information Systems, which fused together his varied passions for travel, camping, history and computing. When not engaged in the Conservancy’s cartographic and information management endeavours, he can be found exploring the region’s natural areas. Mike is a former music teacher, sales professional and a certified beer judge.

Kheayali Mehta is a recent graduate from Trent University with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. As a new Canadian intern on contract funded by the Trillium Foundation grant, she is currently assisting us with research relating to Carbon Offset Social Enterprise project. Kheaylai also work as a customer service representative at TD Canada Trust. Her professional goals are to advance in the field of finance. When not working Kheayali enjoys the outdoors and is willing to try new activities, though she is not overly fond of winter/snow sports.

Past Volunteers

Adam Wright assisted us by writing a research paper on municipal cultural planning, with an emphasis on the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Peterborough.

Adam Clow donated his expertise by helping us with a much needed overhaul of our cultural heritage database. He has moved on to a paid position.

Brendan Fell, a graduate of Queen's University with a degree in History and English Literature, is assisting us with cultural resources data collection for Hastings County. He had previously worked as a Program and Policy Assistant at the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Danielle Kavli completed a work practicum with KHC during the summer of 2011and is now back at Carleton University completeing a B.Sc. in Geography. Danielle provided much needed support with the compilation of cultural tourism related data and conducting research on the geological features of the Kawarthas and KHC properties. Danielle Hilts volunteered (Sep 2010 to August 2011) for KHC with various tasks including our newletter production and contacts management. Having interned as the Office Manager/ Executive Assistant at KHC, Danielle moved on to paid work at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Danielle is currently pursing her Masters at Queen's University. Read Danielle's experience in our July 2011 newsletter.

Greg Chappel assisted us with our land trust related work.

Gemma L Edwin assiste us with various policy related work during her internship with us.

Jessica Mueller assisted us with GIS work during August and September of 2011. She is now working for the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Laura Endicott Keresztesi helped create and produce with our much needed July 2010 newsletter.

Matthew Edwards asssited us with the production of communication materials, including preparing fact sheets and conducting website reviews. He brought creative and design talent to KHC.

Nicole Wunderlich assisted us with various GIS mapping and data needs. She has moved on to a paid position.
