Board of DirectorsJohn Platt, President and ChairJohn is a Psychologist who has been associated with the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry and more recently with the Peterborough Regional Health Center as the director of its Psychology Department. He began a full-time private practice about 18 years ago. John has broad psychology interests and more recently has been dealing with the assessment and treatment of post-trauma presentations, wherein he has served as the president of the Canadian Psychologists in that field and also headed the local psychology association. Besides psychology, John has a keen interest in environmental issues. He has played a key role in the establishment of a local provincially-significant wetland as well as in the development of the Clear-Ston(e)y-White Lakes Plan. He has also been involved with the Kawartha Lakes Stewards Association and the MNR Zone 17 Fishing Regulations Council. Robert Browne, Vice President and ChairRobert Browne served as a Director of Community Services for the City of Peterborough from 1994 – 2004. He also worked for the Town of Innisfil as head of Capital projects.Bob is a Kawartha cottage owner and outdoor enthusiast. In his spare time he enjoys construction projects, kayaking, and the outdoors. Matt Brackenridge, TreasurerMatt Brackenridge has been involved as a volunteer at KHC since January 2011 assisting KHC with various administrative and financial matters. Having graduated from Trent University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and a minor in Economics, he now works at TD Canada Trust. His family has a rich history in the area, having been in Westwood for 5 generations, providing rich ties to the local community and it's history. He enjoys taking advantage of the outdoors and is grateful for the opportunity to help preserve the natural landscape and the rich history of the Kawarthas. During his time off Matt likes to ski, mountain bike, and explore a range of other outdoor activities. Cheryl Lewis, SecretaryCheryl Lewis recently retired from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources where she held the position of Director of Applied Research and Development. Previously she had worked as a fisheries biologist in Lindsay. She has been living in Peterborough since 1995. Cheryl enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, canoeing, birding, cycling and fishing and is pleased to join KHC’s efforts to conserve key natural heritage features in the Kawartha region. Debbie Mack, DirectorDebbie Mack is a business development professional with a special interest in merging ecological technologies and business interests. Her experience also includes creating and implementing turn-key operations in the entertainment and edutainment industries. Debbie has a personal commitment to ecological stewardship and is applying permaculture techniques to restore her property on the Indian River in the Kawartha bioregion. She brings experience with land stewardship and business development from past association with other Ontario land trusts. Ralph McKim, DirectorRalph McKim is an international development consultant with expertise and experience in water supply and sanitation, environmental project planning, training and consultation. He is a keen naturalist and enjoys skiing, hiking and restoring ecosystem functions on his diverse Oak Ridges Moraine property near Bethany. Ron Awde, DirectorRon Awde graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1980 with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and in 1984 with a Bachelor of Architecture. Ron bring a variety of professional and non-profit experience that will benefit KHC. He has worked on a number of projects that include updating and preserving heritage library buildings, as well as designing additions and renovations for heritage buildings. His non-profit involvement includes the Longview Housing Co-Operative, Community AIDS Treatment Information Exchange, CATIE, St. Mary’s Cemetary Board, and the Friends of Bethany Branch Library. He is also the Founder and President of The Awde Education Fund. Now a resident of Bethany, Ron continues his work with restoration and preservation. Roslyn Moore, Director (Past President and Chair 2010-2011)Roslyn Moore is a project management consultant, providing services to government and community groups in the areas of program and policy development, strategic planning, multi-stakeholder consultation and fundraising. Her background includes ecosystem research and computer mapping of geographic data. Roslyn is a founding member of the Clear/Stony/White Lake Plan Environment Council. AdvisorsDavid Carruthers is a registered professional planner and self-professed mapping geek. David is the founder of the Aboriginal Mapping Network and Toronto’s Community Planning Lab. David previously served on KHC's Board as a Director. Deborah Scott is a professor within the Museum Management and Curatorship program and the Collections Conservation and Management program. Dennis Carter-Edwards is the President of the Peterborough Historical Society. He previously served as the Historian at Parks Canada. Diane Wolf is a professor in the Business Administration Program at Trent University where she specializes in the field of communications. Diane previously served on KHC's Board as a Director. Erik Hanson is the Heritage Resource Coordinator at the City of Peterborough. Garry Lean is an independent organic inspector and a long-time educator in the environmental field. Garry previously served on KHC's Board as a Director. Gary Neilson is the Climate Change Coordinator for Ontario at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Jenny Gleeson is the Senior Climate Change Program Advisor at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Jon K. Grant is an Officer of the Order of Canada and Chairman of the Ontario Biodiversity Council. Jon is a retired Chairman and CEO of Quaker Oats Company of Canada Limited and is past Chair of Laurentian Bank of Canada, Atlas Cold Storage, Scott Paper Limited, the board of trustees of the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the board of governors of Trent University. He is also former Vice Chair and director of the board of Agricore United. John Bick is a former member of Hertiage Victora and serves on the Board of the Kawartha Settlers' Village. John Wadland is a retired Professor of Canadian Studies from Trent University. Linda Whetung is a graduate of Guelph University (B.A., 1980) and Queen's University (LL.B, 1983) and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985. Her practice focuses on providing real estate, estate and business planning services to individuals, small business, First Nations and professionals. Peter Frood is the Chair of the Township of Smith Ennismore Lakefield Municipal Heritage Committee. Peter has previously served as Director of Historic Places Program Branch; Field Unit Superintendent, Central Ontario (Trent Severn Watrway, Georgian Bay Islands National Park, Bethune Memorial House. Dr. Stephen Hill is an Associate Professor in the Environment and Resource Science/Studies Program at Trent University. He is an active researcher in the areas of energy policy, sustainability and climate policy. Steve Bark is a Chartered Accountant and a former member of KHC's Board of Directors. Tammy Sikma is the Manager of GIS at the County of Peterborough. Terry Rees is the Executive Director of the Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations. Tom Mohr serves on Heritage Victoria, a municipal heritage committee in the City of Kawartha Lakes and is the Vice President of the Victoria County Historical Society. Dr. Tom Symons is the founding President of Trent University and is the receipient of distinguished honours such as the Companion of the Order of Canada, Order of Ontario, and many others.. Dr. Tony Tilly is the President of Fleming College. Dr. Tilly previously served on KHC's Board as Treasurer. |
