"Protecting Your Natural Environment and Cultural Heritage in the Kawarthas"

The Kawartha Heritage Conservancy (KHC), established in 2001, is a non-government, non-profit, community-based charity dedicated to the mission of protecting and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage features of the Kawartha bioregion. As a Land Trust, KHC works with landowners and communities in the City and County of Peterborough, the City of Kawartha Lakes, as well as the surrounding areas, to identify, protect, and maintain key ecological and cultural features of the Kawartha bioregion.

What's special about the Kawarthas.....

The Kawarthas' land of shining waters. Of twisted moraines and hump-backed drumlins.
Of mixed-green, shimmering forests. Of rustling, musky marshes. Of long-worked, productive farmlands. Of fading settlers landmarks. Of proud indigenous presence and heritage. Of meandering streams, and rock-lined canals. Of wildlife and plant life and human life - interdependent and vital.

It is this mix of heritage landscapes that continues to attract people to the Kawartha bioregion, and has convinced many of us to stay. It is also the foundation of the bioregion's sustainability: ecological, social, cultural and economic. The goal of protecting and safeguarding the environmental health and vibrancy of this beautiful and rich region of Ontario is critical. KHC is dedicated to this goal.
